Burnham on Crouch - Sailing Centre and Historical Town

Historically, Burnham-on-Crouch has benefited from its location on
the coast, first as a ferry port, later as a fishing port known for
its oyster beds, and most recently as a centre for yachting with four
well supported yacht clubs:
Royal Burnham Yacht
Club
Crouch Yacht Club
Royal Corinthian Yacht Club
Burnham Sailing Club
There are a large number of listed buildings in the town, including
the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club. The Mangapps Railway Museum is located
nearby. Although the town has a population of only 8000, it has a cinema
and numerous pubs and restaurants.
Burnham Week
For over a hundred years, Burnham week has been the highlight if the
Burnham sailing calendar. It is one of the most important sailing weeks
on the East Coast and starts on the Saturday of the August Bank holiday
weekend.
The week is not only important for the racing but for the social side
of yachting with receptions, dinners and entertainment until the early
hours at the three main yacht clubs and other venues in town. The week
finishes on the final Saturday with the Town Cup which is a handicap
race for the entire fleet.
The presentation ceremony on the Quay is followed by a spectacular
fireworks display to celebrate the end of yet another great Burnham
Week.

Getting to Burnham
Burnham is easy to reach by road or rail. Burnham Railway Station has
regular trains from London Liverpool Street via Wickford. The journey
time is around an hour. It is 20 miles from Chelmsford, the nearest
large town.

Burnham Yacht Harbour
The yacht harbour has been a major feature of the town since its construction
in 1989. It has 350 marina berths, 75 swinging moorings and hard standing
for 250 vessels. Facilities include a 35-ton travel hoist, crane lifts
and a 100-ton slip. The marina staff include engineers, riggers and
shipwrights and can handle anything from minor repair to major refit
including engine servicing, antifouling, outfitting, rigging, gel repairs
and painting.
Electrical hook ups and water outlets are available for vessels stored
ashore as well as on the pontoons. Security gates prevent unauthorized
access to the pontoons, and the shower block has recently been refurbished.
