Coastal Yachtmaster Practical Course (Minimum age 17)

The Coastal Yachtmaster course teaches the skills required to skipper a yacht on coastal cruises but may not give the experience needed to undertake longer passages. The main aspects of the course are offshore and coastal navigation, pilotage and meteorology. This course requires a certificate in first aid and SRC/DCS radio operators licence.

Assumed Knowledge: Navigation to Coastal Yachtmaster shore based standard. Sailing to day skipper practical standard.
Ability After Course: Skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night
Minimum Duration: 5 Days
RYA/DoT Coastal Skipper Exam (Practical)
Minimum sea time Within 10 years of Exam: 800 miles and
30 days, 2 as skipper
12 night hours.
Certificates required: Restricted (VHF only) Radio Operator’s Certificate
First Aid Certificate.

If the candidate has completed the Coastal Skipper practical course, the requirements are reduced to 20 days, 2 as a skipper, 400 miles and 12 night hours.
