The holiday 34 is the cruising version of a well know South African designed and built class of racing yachts known as the L34. These yachts have competed successfully in numerous Cape to Rio and Beachcomber Mauritius to Durban races.

Designed to be sailed in the southern oceans, Paloma is sturdily built and is capable of safe passages in most weather conditions.

Hull and other pertinent information:

The hull is constructed from Glass Reinforced Plastic on balsa. Paloma has been antifouled annually using International products. The join between keel and hull is in good condition. Twenty keel bolts securing the keel to the hull were replaced in July 1998. Keel is cast iron, fitted with a wing at the bottom end. The keel is fitted with an anode on the port side.

Rudder

The rudder is the spade type hung under the hull. Steering is by stainless steel wheel via wire to a quadrant. A stainless steel emergency tiller is provided with the vessel.

Through Hull fittings

There are a number of through hull fittings below water line. Forward of the keel is the log impeller, basin outlet, heads inlet and heads outlet. Portside aft is sink outlet as well as engine cooling inlet. Bilges and exhaust discharge port side above water.

Engine

Engine: Yanmar Model 2 GM 20 F (18 HP). Professional engine service and gearbox rebuilt 2008. Winterised and serviced annually.

Propeller

The yacht is fitted with a 2-fixed bladed propeller on a stainless steel shaft. One anode replaced annually. Shaft is in good condition as is P bracket. Cutlass bearing replaced 2009 and stern gland replaced with Tides Marine Sure Seal.

Tankage

Fuel: 55 Litres (Paloma uses about 2 litres per hour at a cruising speed of 5.5 knots which gives her a cruising range of approx. 150 nautical miles. Water: 2 x 55 litres stainless tanks, amidships at vessel sides. Each tank has its own sight glass and stopcock

Electrical

Two 110 amp-hour batteries (new 2008).

Cristec battery charger (new 2008) with built in battery management system.

2 x solar panels with Sun Saver rectifier.

Shore Power unit with various 13 amp sockets.

Rig & Sails

A Masthead Bermudan double spreader sloop rig with a Keel stepped Bellamy aluminum mast and spars consisting of a boom and spinnaker pole. A spinnaker pole track is fitted to mast.

A North fully battened mainsail with 3 reef slab reefing system, stackpack main fitted with lazyjacks.

New genoa fitted 2005, New sacrificial UV strip 2009

A Cruising chute with easy stowing snuffer.

Running rigging and halyards renewed 2008 All standing rigging was replaced by Spencer Rigging April 2001

Lockers

There are three external lockers. Forward is an anchor locker (with Bruce anchor and 50 meters of chain). This is a modular section and drains outside the hull. There are two lazarette lockers (one each side). Gas bottles are stored starboard aft and a gas drain is fitted through the starboard quarter. Two gas bottles are fitted. Locker space is neatly finished, well bonded.

Hatches in main saloon cabin + 1 in heads, 2 in aft cabin, 1 in 3/4 berth, 1 in forecabin.

8 berths (5 sea going) in 3 separate cabins.

Typical v berth configuration with locker space under bunks (port & starboard) vinyl covered mattresses. Three berths in main salon with lee cloths. Separate double aft cabin (with lee cloth). 3/4 berth to port behind galley.

The saloon seating is in the form of bench seats both sides and a pilot berth to starboard. Seat covering is cream vinyl and limited storage is found behind seats. The saloon table is strongly fitted on a stainless steel frame.

Navigation area and aft cabin is fitted with a teak chart table, with instrumentation console, electric instrumentation panel and fuses. Locker plus general storage and additional general storage under the seat. Double berth abaft this. Two opening ports. Access to quadrant steering and stern gland, echo sounder. Storage under bunks. This cabin can be closed off for privacy.
