A great big thank you to Crouch Sailing School for a fabulous weekend where our children, Brendon (10yrs) and Hermione (8yrs) achieved their RYA Start Yachting Certificates. Everything was wonderfully organised by Des and we had a great instructor in Nick. Both children were spellbound throughout the course, where, after a through safety briefing, they managed to steer a 36ft yacht under sail and power. They learned the knots needed for operations on board and for securing the boat. Nick was so much calmer than my wife and I were about letting them control the vessel, even in some relatively tight spots, and both of them have gained so much confidence over the weekend aboard ‘Shalangars Luck’. We look forward to joining the boat again in the future so that they can work on their Competent Crew certificates Adrian & Troy
Just to let you know the tuition on Friday from Phil was excellent and on reflection probably the best I can remember – the last time for such formalised hands on training for me being over 10 yrs ago. He was methodical but also emphasised the element of flexible judgment you need in everyday boat handling. Julian.
Hi Des,
Jen and I would like to thank you, and especially John our instructor for the enjoyable time that we have had this last week. We were impressed by the standards of safety and teaching competence that we experienced, but realise that there is still much to learn. Terry & Jen
Dear Des and Nick,
Just a quick note in response to your request for feedback on the Day Skipper course.
I found the whole experience very testing, as it is meant to be, fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable. All this is due in no small part to your and your instructors’ efforts during both the theory and practical parts of the course.
In particular I would like to thank both Guy and Nick. Both made the practical parts of the course great fun while ensuring that standards were kept high throughout but also allowing for a great deal of participation in every aspect by participants of hugely differing levels of experience afloat. It is no small feat (and a huge credit to both of them) to ensure that such diverse “crews” should be kept so fully engaged for the whole of two full sailing days.
In summary then, I can’t thank you and your team enough for a fantastic experience and for sharing your skills and knowledge so generously.
Many thanks and kind regards, Cameron McGregor
Hi Des
Sorry for the late reply. Had to work late as usual .The course ? Great !!!! I loved it , lived it , probably the best experience of my recent life.Thank you for accepting me, being an outsider in many ways.I also have to say , that your instructors are the best, very passionate , professional, and understanding. I did pass my skipper course, as you probably know already. But i think , just by a narrow margin. I still have so much to learn, and more i learn , more i realise how little i know . I also need a lot of practice to push forward . And i intend to do that, don’t know how, yet, but i will.
Thanks again, Des.
Kind regards Vito(the day skipper)
Des and Nick, We had a great time and both feel that despite the marvelous weather we would have enjoyed it as much if it had been cold and wet. So no complaints. James and Romy When can we book for next Spring?

Hi Phil Hi Des,

Good afternoon all, just want to say thanks for a fantastic weekend, lots of laughs and good times. I’m now booked onto my CC course at the end of October so no doubt we will bump into each other again sooner or later. Many Thanks Steve
Just writing to say how pleased I am with the two days of instruction for the Day Skipper.
Many thanks for choosing Phil Jarvis as my instructor for completing the Day Skipper course.
He was excellent for me as he was very sympathetic regarding the situation I had been in and also a very good instructor anyway.
Also I did enjoy sailing Hebe – a really nice boat! Edward
Hi Des im not sure if you remember me but you gave me some tuition on my snapdragon 24 out of bridgemarsh marina a few months back. I thought i would let you know that i sailed her singlehanded across the thames estuary and the english channel and she is now just south of Paris after we navigated through the french canals from Calais. Im on my way to the med but am staying in Paris for a month or 2 and will hopefully be sailing the med next spring. Ray
Hi Phil, Just wanted to thank you for a great day on Friday. I appreciate the wind wasn’t that great but it was still a great introduction for me and I feel so much more comfortable now about a few days on Ashley’s father’s yacht and looking forward to sailing more when I get back to the UK Your approach and style were ideal for me – really enjoyed it.Best wishes, Ross
Des, I had a great time with both instructors and came away with a wealth of knowledge. I have posted a photo to the postal address on the website. Kind Regards, Nick Caulfield
Dear Des and Phil.
Des,
Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say I had a great day sailing with Phil on Saturday. Although I am still very rusty the day helped to start and dust off some cobwebs and has definitely re-ignited my passion for sailing – can’t wait to get out on the water again. Thanks, Rachel.
Hi Des,
Hello Phil
Thank you once again for a lovely day, it was lovely meeting you and having the opportunity to learn a few basic sailing skills on Hebe, very enjoyable.
I’m sure it’s not the last you have seen of Phil
Kind Regards
Leanne & Phil
Thanks for a great day out on a sailing taster day with john . Great tack out to Burnham but no wind to be had on way back . Guess we will have to come back again , Charlotte Clark.
Hi Des had a great day lots of fun but also learnt a lot from Phil as he really involved us in sailing the boat Stuart.
Hello Des,Yes I had a good weekend thanks. Quite a contrast to my previous trip up to Harwich, but enjoyable nonetheless. Thanks & regards, Alan.
Hello Des,
We all had a lovely time on Shalingars Luck over these five days. Tony was really great and we learned a lot. I am sorry we did not get the chance to tell you in person what a great course this was.
Many thanks to the Crouch Sailing School.
Kind regards,
Charlie
I can only second this! It wasn’t my first sailing course and it was the best. With about 150nm, all kinds of weather and wind it was absolutely perfect. Thanks to Tony for making this a great 5 days of learning. (And thanks for sacrificing a 13.5” Domino’s for fighting the tide…)
Thank you
Jo
